RISE
©JEFF HOWARD 2010 SOCAN

Behind you lies the comfort of the womb.
Ahead, you are reclaimed at end of days.
Surrounding you at every turn,
a candle's light will brightly burn
to cast away the darkness in your gaze.

You are the child that's come into its strength:
no hate, nor fear, will ever douse your flame.
A dancing spark above the fire,
you rise up to your heart's desire:
The Moon who is the banisher of shame.

You are the thought within the word
that is the word within the deed
the deed that grants serenity
the egg that through fertility
will...

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To air the mind's ability ablaze with creativity.

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To bathe in sensibility that's grounded with stability.

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To find the way that will fulfill: If it harms none, do what you will.

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To take the path that will fulfill: If it harms none, do what you will.

You are the thought within the word
that is the word within the deed
the deed that grants serenity
through innocence and purity

Knowledge is the light that shines within.
It radiates the bliss of perfect peace.
A sun reborn remakes the day.
A golden path to guide the way.
The passionate embrace that brings release.

You are the thought within the word
that is the word within the deed
the deed that grants serenity
the egg that's found fertility

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To find the way that will fulfill: If it harms none, do what you will.

Rise. Turn. Dance. Burn.
Rise. Turn. Dance. Learn.
To take the path that will fulfill: If it harms none, do what you will.

  1. There are a set of spiritual instructions common to all religions, regardless of time, place or accepted interpretation. Even in a non-spiritual context, the act of spring cleaning is universal. These lyrics are about spring cleaning, as was the very action of writing about it.

  2. I find the second verse so empowering and moving Jeff! We all are the child who must at some point step forward, into that place of self realisation/action. How lovely that the moon; reflective and mystical and the sun ~ full of strengthening light, are our guides. The continual polarity of action and reflection. The checking- in places of love and trust. Growth; ever ascending, to that final reclamation ~ we surrender to love...and become whole in our re ~ creation, no shame ~ and harming none... "Do what you will". Bravo!
